Apple And Strawberry Crumble

PREPARATION- Takes 45 minutes

Apple and strawberry crumble can be enjoyed by kids of all ages, even adults can tuck in!

You will need to use eating apples for this recipe, which will greatly reduce the amount of sugar you will need to add. Fantastic!

  • 55 grams/2 ounces porridge oats
  • 175 grams/6 ounces plain flour
  • 85 grams/3 ounces unsalted butter
  • 85 grams/3 ounces soft brown sugar
  • 3 eating apples
  • 4-5 tbsp water
  • 400 grams/14 ounces fresh strawberries

Firstly, preheat the oven to 180° C/350° F. Find a large mixing bowl and put the oats and flour in. Cut the butter into little cubes and rub into the flour and oats until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.

Next, stir in the sugar. Muscovado is a great healthier option. Wash and slice the apples and place in an oven proof dish, add 4-5 tbsp of water and cover and cook for around 10 minutes, until the fruit softens.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before adding your washed and halved strawberries.

Sprinkle the crumble mixture over the top of the fruit and bake in the centre of the oven for approximately 30-40 minutes until the top looks golden brown.

The recipe makes 4-6 servings and is suitable for home freezing, but will keep well in the fridge for up to two days. The crumble is even tastier served with some Yummy Banana Custard.
It is optional whether you keep the banana in the recipe. You could always reduce the amount or leave it out completely and have plain custard.
