First Fish Fingers




Fish is so good to get your toddler started on early!

The frozen versions that are available from the supermarket tend to be loaded with unnecessary fat and salt. After seeing your toddler's reaction to your homemade version, you won't look back. Yours will contain more yummy fillet and less fat and salt. Now that is good news!!

PREPARATION- Takes 15 minutes.

  • 115g (4oz) cod or haddock fillet with their bones and skin removed.
  • 1 beaten egg.
  • 4 tbsp dried wholemeal breadcrumbs.
  • A generous splash of olive oil or rice bran oil (available from supermarkets).
  • A tiny pinch of salt.

    Cut the cod/haddock into four pieces. Spread out the breadcrumbs on a flat plate, beat the egg in medium sized bowl and gently heat the oil in a frying pan. Dip the pieces of cod/haddock in the egg and then immediately roll in the breadcrumbs until covered. Sprinkle with a tiny bit of salt (optional).

    Fry for five minutes each, turning once, until breadcrumbs are golden brown and meat is cooked all the way through. Serve with some creamy mashed potato and soft vegetable sticks. (Please see recipe index for these recipes).
