Tuna Mash Recipe

Tuna mash is so easy to make and is filling and nutritious!

PREPARATION- Takes 15 minutes.

  • 3 small new potatoes or 1 medium potato.
  • 1 generous dessert spoon full of tinned tuna fish.
  • Milk (try using goats milk as a healthy alternative to cow's)
  • Wheatgerm (available from health food shops)
  • Butter
  • Grated onion
  • Pinch of salt

Wash and slice the potatoes and transfer into a small pan. Pour in enough milk so it is completely covering the potatoes. Next grate a small piece of onion into the saucepan and add a tiny pinch of salt.

Bring to the boil, lower the heat and then cook gently until the potatoes are cooked through and the milk is almost absorbed.

Mash the potatoes with a fork and stir in a small knob of butter and the fish. Transfer into a slightly buttered casserole/oven proof dish, sprinkle with some wheatgerm and brown under the grill.

This recipe works just as nicely with tinned salmon or mackerel. Just be a little aware of any stray bones that may have found their way in. As a rule though, these come completely de-boned.
