Here are some ideas to get you and the kids motivated and committed to a fitness plan...
MAKE AN ACTIVITY CALENDAR. This will work especially well with younger children. Work with your kids to come up with a list of their favourite activities and then help them to turn these into a calendar for planned daily activity. Keep it somewhere visible like the fridge or noticeboard.
Jot down which activities your child participates in over a month. This will give you the opportunity to recognise what they like and don't like and how much exercise they are actually getting.
By getting the kids involved with household chores and perhaps suggesting activities where exercise just happens, you can sneak in some extra physical activity.
FITNESS GAMES FOR KIDS
- Dog walking
- Walking or cycling to school
- Cleaning their bedroom
- Vacuuming and sweeping
- Helping to fold the laundry
- Washing the car
Use your imagination when it comes to this, anything goes as long as it involves the kids getting active!
- Invest in a skipping rope and get the whole family involved. Take it in turns to skip in the middle of the rope with one person on each end. If you don't have a garden go to the park.
- Arrange a mini football match in your garden/park. Make it as real as possible with fresh orange segments at half time and a small prize for the winning team. If you don't have goalposts just improvise!
